This remake of the 70s LaBelle stomper goes the all star route: four pop R&B divas (Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya, and Pink), one diva coproducer (Missy Elliott). But even with Aguilera keeping her shriek in check and a faithful duplication of the LaBelle arrangement, this Lady Marmalade (part of the soundtrack for the upcoming Nicole Kidman flick Moulin Rouge) feels cluttered next to the steamy original. And maybe its a sign of the times, but Voulez vous coucher avec moi, ce soir? sounds awfully tame now.
